About

Student members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) will report the NUJ’s policy-making conference – called its delegate meeting – in Southport 7-10 April 2011.

We will be using Twitter, live blogging, You Tube, Audioboo and other online tools and putting as much as we can on this WordPress website. We will be reporting using mobile phones as well as cameras, recording equipment and computers. And we will document how we report and how the technologies work – or don’t. We would welcome your comments. Feel free to get involved by using the Twitter hashtag #nujdm.

The project is designed to provide a structured work experience programme for student NUJ members. It is run by the chair of the NUJ’s Professional Training Committee (ProfCom), Chris Wheal, who is a freelance journalist and editor. He has  nearly 25 years experience of print and online journalism and currently runs a website for AOL.

Also helping this year are:

  • Lizzie Houghton, editor of Lancaster University student newspaper Scan and attendee at the 2009 ADM
  • Rosie Niven, freelance print and online journalist and blogger

The back-up support comes from the NUJ Training department, the largest provider of post-entry journalism training in the UK.

The NUJ offers student membership to those studying journalism and to students working on student media. There is a one-off fee of £25 and student membership comes with discounts on NUJ training courses and a discount on your first year of subs when you become a full member.
