Exploring new ways of recruiting student journalists to the NUJ
The NUJ is finding that it is best to attract emerging journalists while they are still at university and is adapting its recruitment methods to appeal to more students. Report by Holly McCormack, Vicky Britton and Gareth Dowling.
Student delegate Sam Butler speaks on Wikileaks motion
Student delegate Sam Butler spoke on order paper 13 motion 112 on Wikileaks. Sam mentioned that a lack of scrutiny of these websites could put “lives, careers and liberty” at risk. Sam ended by quoting Gargi Patel “We have rights, but also responsibilities” and said that he “couldn’t agree more.” The motion was carried.
Speaker elected from the NUJ students
Three students put their names forward for the role of student speaker at the NUJ Delegate Meeting this year. Dan Richardson was voted for by fellow students for the position and is expected to be speaking in front of the delegates later today. Dan wants to raise the issues of rising tuition fees and unpaid internships. More …
